Pella city council approves Mega-Casey’s General Store

News

PELLA – The city council may have voted in favor of the Mega-Casey’s but the emotions stirred up by this debate will clearly take some time to dwindle.

Tuesday night, residents of Pella made their final plea as to why a Casey’s general store should or shouldn’t be built on the corner of Main and Union Streets. The council decided the new store would be permitted to be built. Some people argue it will hurt the historical downtown district. On the other hand others said it would help the area.

“The other Casey’s we could probably put some tourism or something and use them for something else,” said Simon Voss.

There’s concern over how busy that part of main street gets.

“We do have a library near the Casey’s store and we do have a lot of traffic for bicyclists and pedestrians alike,” said Laura Thomas.

Either way the decision is made and Pella residents are hoping Casey’s will do more harm than good.

“If Casey’s really wants to establish themselves as a world class company than they really need to be benefiting the people and not coming in necessarily as a bully, ” said Mike Dykstra who lives in Pella. He also thinks Casey’s will keep it’s end of the bargain.

A time frame as to when the new Casey’s General Store will be built is to be determined.
