Nate Yoho joined us on Local 5 News Midday today to talk about what Head for the Cure has meant for him and his family.
Nate lost his wife Laura to brain cancer just months before their daughter was born. Laura had undergone three major brain surgeries, two rounds of radiation therapy, and multiple courses of chemotherapy before being taken by the disease. After discovering that her body was too weak to bear a child, Laura’s childhood friend volunteered as her surrogate. Baby Caralyn was born four months after her mother passed.
Since losing his wife, Nate has participated in Head for the Cure’s 5K Walk/Run, and plans to do so again this year. Head for the Cure has raised $6,000,000 for brain cancer research since its first 5K Walk/Run held back in 2003.
This year’s event is this Sunday, May 15 at 8:00 am at Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines. For more information on the event and how to register, please visit www.headforthecure.org.
