Dutch Look to Defend 3A Title

“When you look around Pella’s football stadium. There are a few new additions that stand out.

“It was an exciting year”

After making 25 previous trips to the state playoffs, the Dutch finally broke   through on #26 winning its first state title over Sioux City Heelan.

“Right away it doesn’t feel real for a while. Then as people start talking to you and they congratulate you and start asking if you’re going to do it again, it really starts to set in.”

“Coach Mac always says you gotta enjoy it and then come January as the new season’s getting more near you need to let that go and focus on the new season.”

A new year also puts a big target on the Dutch.

Pella is the preseason #1 team in 3A and will have to replace a good chunk of its o-line that helped open plenty of holes for QB Noah Clayberg.

But the senior isn’t worried.

“In the same boat.”

Pella’s boat is just a little bit fuller than most.

They bring back a QB that totaled 35 touchdowns,

Racked up more than 3000 total yards, averaging almost 10 yards a carry.

When you have someone like that under center,

There’s not too much to worry about as a coach.

“You’re right, you’re approaching the season ..and the things that he can do.”

With the season opener set for Friday, Pella’s ready to begin its title defense and prepare for an encore performance.
