1 person killed in Dallas County house fire, sheriff's office says

80-year-old Dennis Felt was found dead inside the home. An autopsy is pending.

DALLAS CENTER, Iowa — The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says an 80-year-old man died in a fire Monday night in Dallas Center.

Crews were dispatched to 20175 W Ave around 9:40 p.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call on a structure fire. Multiple departments responded and found the house "to be fully engulfed" with a woman standing outside, uninjured.

"The female resident stated she thought her husband was still inside the residence," the sheriff's office said in a press release.

80-year-old Dennis Felt was found dead inside the home. An autopsy is pending.

"At this time, the fire appears to be accidental," the sheriff's office added.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including fire departments from Granger, Woodward, Adel, Bouton, Perry, Dallas Center, Madrid and Ankeny.
