Chris Kuball joined Local 5 in June 2023 as meteorologist for Local 5 News Midday and Local 5 News at 5.
Although he’s a Chariton, Iowa native, Chris comes to central Iowa from Rochester, MN where he was Chief Meteorologist for KAAL-TV. Chris brings a variety of forecasting experience to central Iowa, including severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and flooding but also the classic Minnesota blizzards and extreme cold.
Chris’s passion for weather started early in life, as a child watching thunderstorms roll towards his home. After High School, Chris followed his dream of weather by attending Iowa State University, graduating with a B.S. in Meteorology in 2007. Chris also holds the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal of approval.
His favorite part of joining the We Are Iowa’s Most Accurate Weather team is being able to forecast for his hometown of Chariton.
When Chris isn’t working, you can often find him spending time with his wife and three boys, friends and extended family. You’ll find him cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and tailgating prior to football games. He’s also a fan of the Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Wild. Chris stays active and can often be found in the outdoors, hiking or kayaking.
