ALTOONA, Iowa — An Altoona barbeque restaurant will serve up its last meals this week.

Claxon's Smokehouse and Grill announced Tuesday that, after nearly 30 years in operation, the business will close so the owner can "take some time to relax and explore". Claxon's served up salads, appetizers and plenty of barbeque during its three decades in the city.

The post encouraged patrons to stop by and say farewell, even adding that the net sales for Claxon's final week will go to the staff who are finding new jobs.

"I will be around as much as possible to thank everyone for helping us not only survive but thrive for nearly 30 years. This is a bittersweet time for myself and my family. The building has been sold but Claxon's is still ours. We may return in the future," the post reads in part.

A new, locally owned shop will replace Claxon's at 3131 8th Street in Altoona following the closure. An exact timeline has not yet been made clear.
