Mullets to open new location in Ames, replacing West Towne Pub

The restaurant plans to open this summer.

AMES, Iowa — A Des Moines restaurant is opening a third location, filling a gap left behind by the closing of a beloved neighborhood sports bar.

Mullets announced on Facebook it planned to open a restaurant in Ames, located at 4518 Mortensen Road. The space was previously home to West Towne Pub.

The Facebook post indicates the restaurant will have "new owners" who plan to open in approximately three months.

Known for its weekend brunch and award-winning Bloody Mary, Mullets currently has locations in Des Moines (1300 Southeast 1st St) and Ankeny (617 SW 3rd St Suite 103).

Mullets' announcement comes just two days after West Towne Pub announced it would shutter its doors after nearly 20 years in operation.

"As we bid farewell, we carry with us a treasure trove of memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Though this chapter may be closing, the spirit of West Towne Pub will live on in the friendships formed, the laughter shared, and the love that permeated every corner of this establishment," the business shared in a Facebook post, which has since been deleted.

The post also thanked its staff and patrons for nearly two decades of unwavering support and dedication, saying the West Towne Pub family is "forever grateful for the joy you brought us".
