ANKENY – Ankeny has been ranked fourth on the listed of 15 fastest-growing cities in the United States, according to a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Between July 1, 2016 and July 1, 2017, Ankeny added 3,789 residents—an average of more than 10 people per day—for a growth rate of 6.4 percent. Ankeny completed a special census on Dec. 10, 2014, that showed the population to be 54,598. The 2017 estimate puts the population at 62,416 and today, the estimate stands at 65,000. Ankeny’s population has more than doubled over the last 15 years.

“Ankeny is a special place and it is no surprise to see us on this list again,” said Ankeny City Manager David Jones. “Ankeny has what people are looking for in a place to live – it is a safe, family-friendly community with beautiful parks and trails, quality municipal services and a premier school district. Through the planning and vision of past and current city leaders, we have been able to stay on top of the growth by making investments to support quality growth while preserving our hometown feel.”
