LISTEN: Emotional testimonials on fetal heartbeat bill

DES MOINES – Iowans packed into the State House Tuesday night for their chance to speak out about the controversial fetal heartbeat bill.

Emotions were running high in the hearing. People piled into the Supreme Court room to testify and try and sway lawmakers.

The discussion surrounded the highly-contentious piece of legislation that bans the sale of fetal tissue in the state and it bans abortions once a baby’s heartbeat is detected.

Those against the bill say it’s a woman’s right to choose and politics should be left out of it.

Iowans on the other side of the aisle say life begins when a heartbeat is detected and this bill is speaking for all the unborn babies who don’t have a voice.

Republicans know that if this bill makes it through, it will be a fight for them in the courts.
