DES MOINES – Pokemon Go is taking Iowa, and the nation, by storm, and now a local climate action group is using the new mobile app to engage Iowans in a different way.
NextGen Climate Iowa announced Thursday that it plans to host Pokemon Go Meet Ups in Ames, Iowa City, Cedar Falls, and Des Moines on Friday.
“NextGen Climate Iowa will drop lures in each of these cities, meaning we’ll release a group of Pokemon in a specific location at a specific time in each city,” said the group.
When people in those cities arrive to capture Pokemon, NextGen Climate Iowa said it will talk to players on the importance of being registered to vote and committing to vote for clean energy leaders in the November election.
Below are the exact locations of the Pokemon Go Meet Ups.
Ames: Parks Library on the Iowa State University campus at 6 p.m.
Iowa City: Ped Mall in Iowa City at 5 p.m.
Cedar Falls: downtown at 7 p.m.
Des Moines: Pappajohn Sculpture Park at noon
