Local labor leader announces bid for Iowa House District 34

Campbell, a labor leader, Democrat and lifelong Des Moines resident, is looking to take Ako Abdul-Samad's seat.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Another candidate has announced their official entry into the race for Iowa House District 34, a seat made vacant by current representative Ako Abdul-Samad's retirement.

Veteran and community leader John Campbell formally announced his candidacy for the position on Monday, though he's been in the running since making the March 15 candidacy deadline.

Campbell, a labor leader, Democrat and lifelong Des Moines resident, is campaigning for the working people's improvement and on the promise of "better future for all".

He joins a stacked race, with three other Democrats in the running to represent District 34: Samy El-Baroudi, Rob Johnson and Dudley Muhammad. Republican Danielle Duggan is also aiming for the seat.
