Los Angeles Rams hire Iowa State OC Nate Scheelhaase to Sean McVay's staff

The former Iowa State OC has landed a spot on Sean McVay's coaching staff.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — After one season as Iowa State's offensive coordinator, Nate Scheelhaase is leaving the program for the NFL.

Scheelhasse was hired by the Los Angeles Rams as an offensive assistant/pass game specialist.

This past season, Iowa State's offense improved under Scheelhaase, going from 20.2 points in 2022 to 26.2 in 2023. They also led the nation with 11 offensive touchdowns of 50-plus yards.

In Scheelhasse's offense, redshirt freshman quarterback Rocco Becht passed for 3,120 yards and 23 touchdowns. Becht was also named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and was a second-team Freshman All-American.

Scheelhaase joined the Iowa State coaching staff in 2018 and served in a variety of roles throughout his six seasons with the team including offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, run game coordinator and running backs coach.

Before joining the ISU coaching staff, Scheelhaase was on Illinois' coaching staff from 2015-2017. He started out as the assistant director of football operations and running backs coach before becoming an offensive assistant in his final two seasons on staff.

The Cyclones have not released a timeline for hiring Scheelhaase's replacement.
