DES MOINES, Iowa — People all across central and southern Iowa woke up to snow on Wednesday morning! The snow really accumulated quickly late Tuesday night ahead, especially south of I-80.

For some areas, this snow was the biggest single-event snowfall since early February! Take Des Moines for example: the airport recorded 1.2" of snow, which is the highest in one event since February 7th.

Other areas received quite a bit of snow. Oskaloosa and Knoxville recorded 4.0" of snow, too.

Unfortunately, there's more snow on the way for some areas, too.

The winter weather contributed to numerous slick roads across the state, which unfortunately led to some trouble on area roadways, too.

The snow primarily covered grassy surfaces and elevated surfaces, and began to melt by late morning Wednesday. Even though temperatures remained well below freezing, the ground is warm enough to allow some melting to begin underneath the snow.
