'It sounded like a train was going by': Perry woman describes storm damage to home

Jennifer Pickering was staying at her brother's home when the severe weather rolled through Monday afternoon.

PERRY, Iowa — One home in Perry will be receiving significant repairs after being hit hard by the severe weather that rolled through Monday.

Jennifer Pickering was staying at her brother's home located in the Kading Properties, along with other family members when the severe wind and rain hit the area.

"The rain just started pouring real bad and all of the sudden I heard a shatter and beating noises," Pickering said. "It was almost like the sound of a ball just hitting a window."

Several wood panels went through the home while they were inside. Pickering says her brother was just moments away from being hit with one himself.

"He had just closed the door and I mean it was just seconds and then right after it closed we just heard 'Bam, bam, bam!'"

No injuries were reported.

Pickering says the property manager has been great and has already started boarding up some of the damage that was done to the home. She says the family will be able to sleep there Monday night.
