"This is really great stuff!" Lou takes a look inside Hope Ministries' holiday giftbags for Iowans in need

Hope Ministries provides food and shelter to Iowans in need, helping transform their lives for the better

Hope Ministries' mission is to serve their homeless, hungry, and hurting neighbors in Central Iowa. All of their services are provided for free.

Around 200 men, women and mothers with children stay at Hope Ministries every night across three locations: Bethel Mission men’s shelter, Door of Faith men’s life recovery center, and Hope Center for Women and Children. For some, Hope Ministries' 30-90 day transitional housing program provides enough support to get back on their feet. Others take part in a comprehensive life recovery program for 1-2 years.

Hope Ministries also provides warm meals to Iowans in need. This year, they'll serve a total of more than 170,000 meals. And while Hope Ministries doesn't need additional volunteers for Thanksgiving, Christmas is right around the corner!

According to Kathy Coady, Chief Development Officer at Hope Ministries, volunteers are a must-have this December. Hope Ministries plans to deliver 2,500 meals on Christmas day, and it's the perfect chance for families to get together to help someone in need.

"There are people who make it their holiday tradition. It's really special for them and for us. We get to know each other," shares Coady.
