Coronavirus didn't stop Ankeny church's Easter week tradition

Every year, the Ankeny Christian Church holds a Palm Sunday parad. This year held quite a bit of changes, but they didn't let COVID-19 get in the way.

ANKENY, Iowa — The Ankeny Christian Church didn't let the coronavirus ruin an Easter tradition.

Members of the church drove through the town and local care facilities' parking lots waving palm branches as part of their annual Palm Sunday parade.

Senior pastor Owen Clayton said this is an opportunity to show that faith can endure, even under circumstances like these.

"It is important to keep these traditions, because the traditions remind us that we're part of a larger story," Clayton said, "and then, as we're connected to a larger story, we're connected to each other."
