150 John Deere employees in Ankeny to be placed on 'indefinite layoff'

Currently, 1,700 total employees work at the Ankeny site, with 1,136 of them performing production and maintenance jobs.

ANKENY, Iowa — Approximately 150 John Deere Des Moines Works employees will be laid off in the coming months, a spokesperson for the company confirmed with Local 5 on Monday.

John Deere leadership told its workforce at the Ankeny-based factory that 150 production employees will be placed on "indefinite layoff effective over the months of April and May" on Friday, March 8.

Currently, 1,700 total employees work at the Ankeny site, with 1,136 of them performing production and maintenance jobs.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) requires companies with 100 or more employees to give a 60-day notice of layoffs.

"Each John Deere factory balances the size of its production workforce with the needs of the individual factory to optimize the workforce at each facility," a company spokesperson said.
