Des Moines police arrest suspect in city's 1st homicide of 2024

Police are asking the public for help in locating a car that was used to transport a person injured in the shooting to a local hospital.

A man is charged with murder following a "drug-related robbery", Des Moines police said in a Friday press release. 

27-year-old Ariante Ladon Williams faces four felony charges:

  • Murder - 1st Degree
  • Attempted Murder
  • Robbery - 1st Degree
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Police believe Williams shot and robbed two men in an apartment on SE 1st Street at around 11:35 p.m. Tuesday. Video evidence allegedly shows Williams leaving the apartment complex while carrying a handgun and a stolen bag of marijuana. 

One of the victims, 18-year-old Jacob Matthew Brown of Des Moines, died of his injuries. It was Des Moines' first homicide of 2024. 

Another victim, a 16-year-old male, remains hospitalized as of Friday afternoon. 

Williams was treated for a gunshot wound that occurred during the robbery. He is currently being held at the Polk County Jail. 

Police say a fourth person, identified only as 19-year-old male, also suffered injuries in the robbery and was transported to a hospital by a private vehicle. 

Police are asking the public for help in locating a car that was used to transport a person injured in the shooting to a local hospital. Officers believe the driver may have further information about the incident. Photos of the car can be seen below.

Anyone with information about the car is asked to call police at 515-237-1552, or submit tips online through Crimestoppers of Central Iowa.
