Fort Dodge police ask for help in locating person of interest

49-year-old Lewis E. Ayala is wanted for questioning in connection to a December homicide.

FORT DODGE, Iowa — Fort Dodge police are asking for the public's help in finding a person of interest in connection to a December homicide that killed 45-year-old Ryan Andrews.

Police are looking for 49-year-old Lewis E. Ayala. Ayala is 5 foot 3 inches and 145 pounds with brown eyes and short, partially gray hair. In a press release, police say Ayala is wanted for Possession of a Firearm as a Felon.

This is the second person of interest named in the December homicide. In January, Fort Dodge police arrested 37-year-old David Dayton of Fort Dodge on a parole violation. Police had listed Dayton as a person of interest in connection to the death of Andrews.

On Dec. 29, 2023, police responded to a yard on 14th Avenue SW in Fort Dodge following reports of an unresponsive man, later identified as Andrews.

Webster County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of $500 to anyone with information about Ayala's location.

Police ask those with information to call the Fort Dodge Police Department. Information can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
