ST. LOUIS – A 41-year-old man is facing federal charges for his alleged role in a March 19 jewelry store robbery.

According to a press release from U.S. Attorney's Office, Michael Gladney was charged with armed robbery.

The release said Gladney was one of four people who entered the Vincent's Jewelers that afternoon, forced employees into the back of the store at gunpoint and took jewelry from the display cases. The release said Gladney shot himself in the hand at the time of the robbery, leaving a trail of blood at the scene of the crime.

The St. Louis County Police Department said his blood matched the blood found on the scene.

Gladney was charged with one felony count of armed robbery and one felony count of possessing and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.

He was taken into custody and appeared before the U.S. District Court in St. Louis Wednesday afternoon. No mugshot was provided because this is a federal case.

The Creve Coeur Police Department, ATF and St. Louis County Police Department are still investigating the case.
