Webster County Sheriff's Office investigating after man allegedly shot 2 women, himself

Officials say three children were inside the home during the incident. None of them were physically injured.

WEBSTER COUNTY, Iowa — An Iowa man allegedly killed two women and then turned the gun on himself on Sunday evening, according to Webster County authorities.

A minor reported that a man had shot two people at a house in rural Webster County before leaving the scene on foot around 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, according to a press release from the Webster County Sheriff's Office.

First responders located two women with gunshot wounds in the garage and attempted to save their lives, but they both passed away at the scene. The women have since been identified as 39-year-old Molly Barlow and 63-year-old Phyllis Versteeg.

Police then found a dead man with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the "immediate area of the residence" shortly after responding to the call. The man has been identified as 41-year-old Duran Barlow.

According to Webster County Sheriff Luke Fleener, Molly and Duran Barlow were legally married at the time of the shooting. Their three children were inside the home during the incident. None of them were physically injured.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
