WesleyLife celebrates Indianola veterans with flag raising, presentation

Indianola's WesleyLife senior facility chose to honor those who served their country one day early on Friday, even highlighting a special veteran in the community.

DES MOINES, Iowa — On Veteran's Day, people across the nation will come together to honor those who have served. Here in Iowa, many are celebrated the holiday on Friday.

WesleyLife's The Village Senior Living Community in Indianola paid tribute to their veterans with a flag presentation, a flag raising and a rifle volley salute.

WesleyLife's The Village director Heather Frank shared why the annual event is so special,

"Well, the people who served, we are just so blessed we are able to have a day to be able to show our appreciation for everything they have given, I think that there is probably much [more] deserved than one day," Frank shared with Local 5.

The American Legion came to for those presentations, and they also honored a veteran.

Nancy Hosey is a retired Air Force captain.

"I'm very proud of serving," Hosey said.

During the Friday ceremony, she watched as the American Legion folded a flag in her honor and reflected on her service,

"You know, I feel that I'm blessed because of my experience," Hosey told Local 5.

Although she's grateful for the special honor, Hosey believed she just did what she felt was right.

"I didn't really do anything heroic, but I felt like I fulfilled my military obligation," Hosey said.
