Fire breaks out at West Des Moines home during Friday morning storm

The inside of the house sustained significant damage.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A West Des Moines home sustained significant damage in a fire during a Friday morning storm, Fire Marshall Mike Whitsell told Local 5.

The fire broke out at a home on 34th Street at around 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to Whitsell. Two adults, two children and a few dogs were in the home at the time.

Crews were on scene within minutes of the initial call and all occupants were able to make it out of the house safely with no injuries.

Fire crews were on scene for more than two hours, eventually leaving the scene a little after 9 a.m.

The fire began as high winds and severe thunderstorms crossed much of the Des Moines metro. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown.

Unfortunately, the fire wasn't the only misfortune the home encountered this week: The neighborhood as a whole sustained storm damage on Tuesday as well.
