Reynolds tweets support for Trump, despite 2023 DeSantis endorsement

"I will do everything to defeat [President Biden] and elect Donald J. Trump for President of the United States!" Reynolds shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has shared a message of support for former President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, despite endorsing previous candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Reynolds shared the following message on X, formerly known as Twitter, Wednesday:

"Joe Biden has been a disaster for our country. Higher prices, inflation, an open border, crime, and the destruction of America’s image on the world stage. I will do everything to defeat him and elect Donald J. Trump for President of the United States!"

The post came just hours after former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley officially suspended her bid, and nearly two months after DeSantis ended his, leaving Trump as the party's presumptive candidate.

The shift in attitude comes as a shock for some, since Reynolds staunchly supported DeSantis long before the Jan. 15, 2024 Iowa Caucus even began.

Reynolds endorsed DeSantis over Trump back in November 2023 – a move that sparked tensions between Iowa's governor and Trump.

"We need someone who puts this country first and not himself. . . that leader is Ron DeSantis," Reynolds said at a November 2023 rally. "And it is why I am so proud to stand here tonight and give him my full support and endorsement for president of United states of America."

Reynolds' endorsement was expected to bolster DeSantis' support in the Hawkeye State, but Trump still dominated the Iowa caucuses, winning 98 of 99 counties. The only outlier, Johnson County, went to Haley.
