Central Iowa Water Works officially recognized by the state

Central Iowa Water Works includes Des Moines Water Works along with 11 other central Iowa communities such as Grimes, Polk City, Waukee, Johnston and Norwalk.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Central Iowa Water Works says it is now registered with the State of Iowa to operate as a "regional drinking water authority."

In addition to Des Moines Water Works, the communities joining CIWW include:

  • Ankeny
  • Clive
  • Grimes
  • Johnston
  • Norwalk
  • Polk City
  • Urbandale Water Utility
  • Warren Water District
  • Waukee
  • West Des Moines Water Works
  • Xenia Rural Water District

"The formation of CIWW will enable a stronger water production system for the region now and into the future through shared governance and collaboration," CIWW said in a news release.

The group says it has filed is 28-E and 28F Agreement papers with the Iowa Secretary of State.

"Once CIWW is up and running, the board will be responsible for water system planning, drinking water production and wholesale delivery of water to members," the group continued in its release. "Among CIWW’s first priorities are a pending expansion at the Saylorville Water Treatment Plant north of Des Moines and source water development planning for the metro to ensure water capacity for the region’s future growth."
