SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is one of five finalists for the 2023 Associated Press NFL MVP.
The former Iowa State Cyclone who was the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and a 69.4% completion percentage while adding two rushing touchdowns this regular season. In the team's 24-21 Divisional Round win over the Green Bay Packers, he was 23-for-39 passing for 252 yards and a touchdown.
Purdy's teammate, running back Christian McCaffrey, is also an MVP finalist alongside Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
McCaffrey is also nominated for AP Offensive Player of the Year, but Purdy is not.
Finalists were chosen by a panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league. Each voter was asked to rank their top five picks for MVP, as well as their top three for other awards, according to the AP's revamped voting system.
The 2023 NFL MVP will be named during the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 8.
The 49ers (13-5) host the Detroit Lions (14-5) on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game (5:30 p.m. CT on FOX).
