1 dead in chain reaction crash in Madison County

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a car was going east on the highway when it tried passing another vehicle. However, in doing so, it hit a second car going west.

MADISON COUNTY, Iowa — A Creston man is dead after a three-vehicle crash on Christmas Day in Madison County.

The Iowa State Patrol said it happened Monday around 6:30 p.m. on Highway 92, east of Winterset.

According to the State Patrol's report, a car was going east on the highway when it tried passing another vehicle. However, in doing so, it hit a second car going west head-on. 

ISP said the second car then rolled and hit a third car in the process. 

The driver of the second car was identified as 46-year-old Corey Brown. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the first car was hurt and taken to an area hospital. Iowa State Patrol has not released the extent of their injuries and no charges have been filed against them at this time.

The third driver in the crash was not hurt.
