Fire breaks out at unoccupied home on 5th and Euclid, police say

Drivers can expect lane reductions and temporary road closures into tomorrow, according to police.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police and the Des Moines Fire Department responded to a house fire at 5th Avenue and Euclid Avenue on Tuesday night.

Firefighters arrived at the house around 8:50 p.m. to find the house fully engulfed, according to District Chief Matt Porter.

The flames came out all of the windows and through the roof, Porter said. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading and eventually smother the flames.

The fire was eventually put out around 9:50 p.m.

Neighbors told Porter that the house has been empty for up to two years.

Porter also said the house had no electricity or gas. Investigators are still at work to figure out the cause of the fire.

Drivers can expect lane reductions and temporary road closures into tomorrow, according to police.
